“Sandy beach”, Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin - description of the painting

Sandy coast - Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin. 134.5 x 84 cm

Real, realistic and at the same time, as if a fabulous corner of nature is captured on this canvas. Tall, powerful, lively and mighty trees stand by the wall and draw with their depth, beckon into the thicket, where it is scary and interesting at the same time.

The color of the sky to match the forest wilds is dark blue, alarming, with heavy clouds floating from the horizon. Closer to the shore, the color of the colors changes and becomes lighter thanks to the sandy shore and open terrain.

In the foreground, in warm and delicate, white-golden tones, coastal sand. Against its light background, tree roots - curved, hooked, eagerly reaching for water, stand out especially. These roots, like splayed paws of goblin, tend and crawl to life-giving moisture.

But this ends the fabulous landscape. Representing nature, the author does not allow any approximation, everything is clear, distinct, with a strict completeness of each stroke, each brush stroke.

The composition also adds reality and the figure of a man standing on the shore and peering into the distance. Maybe it was Shishkin who portrayed himself, because he loved walking, he loved being alone with nature.
